What is there to do in Placencia? Here are Five Things to Experience on your next trip!

When planning your stay in Belize, it can be difficult to decide what to do or where to go since there are so many options! Placencia Village offers picturesque beaches and plenty of activities within walking distance of each other. This town has something for everyone, but here are our suggestions!

  1. Visit the Local Artisans. On almost every corner in Placencia, there are local artists selling handmade goods under tents or their shops.  Pick out a fashionable pair of earrings from Treasure Box, or browse hand-carved kitchenware on the boardwalk. Enjoy sampling wine and cheese on the rooftop of Mayan-themed Pyramid House Wine, or view carefully curated local paintings at Lola’s Art Gallery. If you visit Belize in February, attending Placencia’s annual Sidewalk Art Festival is the perfect opportunity to celebrate and support local artists and small businesses!

  1. Let the pins fall where they may! Grab a bike or golf cart and head over to Jaguar Lanes Bowling Alley right outside of Placencia for a little bit of friendly competition. This intimate venue features several bowling lanes, a full bar with colorful cocktails, and an American menu of pizza, nachos, hamburgers, and fries. Recline in a comfy chair while you watch your group members throw strikes and let the friendly and helpful Jaguar Lanes staff take care of your needs. If this popular location gets too crowded, step outside onto the deck and enjoy a friendly game of pool, darts, or foosball!

  1. Remember to explore! Placencia is a colorful town whose main street is a boardwalk perfect for an evening stroll. Crowded by shops, tour booths, restaurants, and bars, the boardwalk is as narrow as 24 inches wide in some places and as a result, has been crowned the world’s smallest main street by the Guinness Book of World Records! If you find yourself downtown, make sure to stop and enjoy an ice-cold gelato at Tutti Frutti to help you cool off from your walk before heading down to the pier to watch the fishermen unload their catch of the day.

  1. Perfect your swing at Inky’s Mini Golf. Their professionally-designed course features 18 holes that challenge new and experienced players alike! While viewing the native foliage and hand-carved animal figurines that surround the putting greens, make sure to sip on a cold drink from Inky’s 19th Hole Restaurant and Bar. After your game, you can drop-in to the restaurant for a quick snack or stay longer for a delicious meal prepared by their professional chefs. Inky’s serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner on their shady deck and in the evenings sometimes feature live musicians to serenade their guests!

  1. Relax on the Beach. While it’s great fun to go out and see everything that Belize has to offer, don’t forget to take a minute to sit down and appreciate the crystal clear water and blue skies of the beautiful Placencia beaches. Grab a chair or hammock (and a drink) and let the calm breezes and sounds from the ocean help you unwind. If you forgot to make time for the beach in your itinerary, wake up early and catch one of Placencia’s stunning sunrises. Watch the waves closely and you might see bottlenose dolphins or manatees playing in the water!

Visiting Placencia is the perfect choice. Whether you prefer trekking through the shops and restaurants in the village, enjoying family activities like bowling or mini-golf, or sitting back and relaxing on the beach with a drink in your hand, Belize is just the right place for you!
